Travel Alert - Turkey & France January 2020

Flight operations have been temporarily suspended at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport on Tuesday, 07 January, following an incident where a passenger plane skidded off a runway. Operations were scheduled to resume from 11.20 a.m. (local time).

The incident occurred at 09.43 a.m. (local time) due to bad weather conditions. No injuries were reported and all 164 passengers were safely evacuated from the Pegasus Airline aircraft.

Turkish Airlines' CEO, Bilal Eksi, tweeted that the national carrier had to suspend both incoming and outgoing flights until 3.00 p.m. (local time) due to the runway closure.

The hard-line CGT union has called on all striking French workers to begin a 'total blockade' of the country's oil refineries from Tuesday, 07 January to Friday, 10 January. This action could potentially lead to filling stations across the country running dry.
