Travel Alert - France, Kenya, Thailand & UK December 2019

FRANCE

Strike action continued for a seventh consecutive day on Wednesday, severely disrupting public transportation sectors, including bus, rail and trams. Travellers are cautioned to expect ongoing significant disruption to their travel plans within France into next week as unions continue to extend the strike period.

KENYA

At least two of the country’s leading airports will be closed temporarily on Thursday, 12 December due to Jamhuri Day celebrations. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be closed for one hour between 11:00 and 12:00, during which time no flights will be allowed to take off or land. Wilson Airport will experience a five-hour closure between 9:00 and 14:00.

THAILAND

On Thursday, 12 December there will be a royal barge procession along a 4.2km section of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok marking King Vajiralongkorn’s coronation. The event is taking place at 17:00 (local time) but travel restrictions are likely to be in place during much of the day due to road, bridge, waterway and pier closures, as well as other restrictions related to the viewing of the procession.

UNITED KINGDOM

Flight operations at Liverpool John Lennon Airport resumed on Wednesday following a six hour halt after a business aircraft skidded off the runway upon landing at the facility. This incident lead to a number of outbound flights being cancelled and inbound flights being diverted to Manchester Airport during the closure.
